NSEJS (National standard examination in junior science)held today. This is primary level examination which screens almost 300 students for second level. There are 80 questions 20 questions each from
physics, chemistry, maths and biology. question paper is of good level as far as it is concerned with toughness of question paper. Biology:all questions are conceptual and question framing is very good in this segment by examinner.questions asks student to have critical thinking over various biological phenomena and practical approach to freeze final answer. chemistry:in chemistry section questions are of average level but question framing from higher level classes is not justified as such things has no corelation with class xth syllabus.it included topics like;thermodynamics,d block chemistry, chemical equilibrium etc.it was easy but challenging for junior section students from syllabus point of view. Physics:it is of average level and conceptual as majority questions are related to junior syllabus but question pattern again approaches senior level. Maths:standard question paper which requires good practice and instant approach.in all this year question paper is of good level and it demands serious effort and exhaustive syllabus coverage.one who attempts questions without taking harm of negative marking and sensible approach to put best effort at the time of exam can get through. 3. I have seen Expert Arunji's review about QP earlier also, and found him quite perfect, he seems to put lot of efforts in the subject,I have see the paper and cannot imagine that anyone who do not go deep into the QP can evaluate this as he did, I must say authorities must take note of this.

I fully agree with Arunji;s view. But would like to add that I am surprised to see the paper, The paper was lengthy, average intelligent student of caliber to clear at both stages level can answer 80% of paper comfortably within the given time, making sure about the final answer.
This time the usual way to attempt such examination has not worked looking into last 2-3 yrs papers, this was different than those. Hence knowing cutoff of last years and self assessment that is not going to work with this paper.
Simple Applications of secondary level was absent this time and were broadly of class XI-XII level.
yes this is true that cramming type of student were helpless this time.
To comfort you all students - do not worry, this is not percentage based test but a true percentile based exam, hence all you have to see and iapt people will look is whether or not you are in top 300 students, so do not much worry about cutoff marks as it is for sure going to reduce than earlier years. may be around 118-122 this year. (Although iapt donot disclosed marks open)
Yes do check last time your state representation as this will count for your selection.
for rajasthan this would be around 25 students and for UP this will be around 12 students. hence Mr Anonymous, if you are getting 142 in this paper, I must say you may be then one whom we would see in Next Jr Science Olympiad at Mumbai next year Dec 2013. 142 score in this paper is great number for secondary student. Congrates.
Once again all the thanks to Sh Arunji, whose evaluation must be taken note of to understand and improve considerably. Please keep on giving your views to help students and parents of able & keen students.
    regards

    1. Dear Mr.Rajkumar,
I'm the same boy from Class 09 scoring 142(as my earlier post). I really thank you from core of my heart for your reply, which has really encouraged me. But one correction please, state quota for Uttar Pradesh for NSEJS 2012-2013 is 22 (Twenty two) as per IAPT site.
All my friends from my center have scored less than 100. But yet I doubt my selection, because I think there are students in UP capable of scoring 170+(for I have left about 5-6 question which I could have easily done in just 5 more minutes, which would have taken my score to 160).
Please reply to my post. Thank You very much for your earlier reply.
Also, others are requested to please post your marks on this blog so that we can together determine an expected cutoff.

    Sir/Ma'am,
I am Tapan Sharma from delhi.
I have secured a total of 106 or 110 in this exam..
Also I am on the top or on second in my centre.
    My centre code is DL144.
Sir I want to know whether there's any chance of me getting selected.

Also tell me that the cutoff is for All India Or for particular states...

Also Can I know that If from Delhi 15 students are to be selcted then Do IAPT Need to select atleast 15 from Delhi. Does cutoff matters in this thing.

  5. Sorry to say this indeed is difficult to address you students as anonymous 1 or 2, dear children when you are performing so well do come out with your name as they are worth respecting. Tapan you did very well boy, before anybody like me say anything I would sure wish to tell you dear wait for 3-4 more days for IAPT's tentative answer key, Do remember to get wrongs corrected, and then we would talk about this, be sure you are near the range where you may be the part of second stage analysis. I must appreciate your marks dear from delhi. List will not bounded by centers individually but Delhi as a whole state. Cutoff would be different in different state, plz refer this site as even this site in previous notes has difined and detailed about the same to understand this issue or even at the iapt site.

Boy from UP- what I said was right except the number of students from UP. You are partly correct as now I remember that some 10 students were from Varanasi center and Up had 2 centers. Secondly, dear iapt has given last year list for reference only, so this isn't the quota, this may increase or decrease depending upon the number of applicants from state. But I am sure this will remain around the same or may increase, as this year the margin would increase from AP I guess.
Even in UP what I have the information, you are getting very good marks among rest of the students that is 142 marks, Put a note on this site when you get the result so that may congratulate you, think of planning about second stage preparations for the exam too be held on 2 Feb 2013. your parents must feel proud of you. I am sure I would see you in OCSC on this very performance of yours.
    Take all the care
    regards,
    Rajkumar

  9. Tapan dear
Give me few more days to get the info broadly about the students at Delhi if I can get, and I will let you know,But for very sure this will be lower than what it is in Rajasthan.
    Naman,
130 is again good marks in Rajasthan, If you are getting this even after IAPT key, you would sure get through as I understand, My wishes for next stage. This would be around 114-118 in Rajasthan this year from IAPT key, but before I say finally wait for the key to come up.
all the best for aspirants of IJSO as the iapt key would be coming up very soon now.

  11. MP would get a good cutoff, sorry to say,
more over no one from any state will get through on getting less than 100 marks in NSEJS,
for MP I think it would be above 122 as cut of. students of class 10th had done good in MP.
Bhopal is a nice place which would have results above Indore or else
Keys were expected today but not released yet, may be Monday it will be released.

  13. Sir , I am a student of Rajasthan. And I am from Kota. According to the resonance answer key , i am getting around 152-155. Sir , am i sure of my selection and prepare for second stage??

    ReplyDelete
  14. Selection criteria are different in different countries as they have different names for their secondary education system, we in India only follow their rules. Criteria are little tight here in India may be due to a bigger population here in a class.
Student of class 10 next year can sure appear in NSEJS but if you are in class 10 this year, you may not be allowed to appear next year dear, I am sorry, but for sure you still have many options left in your hand if you start early like NSEP, NSEA, NSEC, NSEB, IESO, Intl Informatics Olympiad etc. There are example where students of class X or XI did well in these exams.

Student from Kota - Getting 152-155 (in NSEJS) is really good marks and this would sure give you a chance to appear in stage 2, post marks after you check when iapt answer keys appear on net on monday, it would become easy to understand your position. As far as I understand students between 114-118 cutoff will clear stage 1 of the exam this year.
You may even check this site as I have seen little above here about "Edu Fest"2012 in Dec end, which may be helpful for you to understand the stage2 of INJSO in feb 2013. Inquire them timely if they can be any help to you. My good wishes to bring name to yourself, parents and your teachers, do not loose this opportunity to do some nice effort in the exam.
    All the best.

  17. Sir , I am the student getting in the range of 152-155. Sir and your opinion shows that I will get selected. Sir , I am in 10th class this year. I gave NTSE stage 1 this year and I am sure of my NTSE stage 1 selection. Sir now i have a doubt, For which i shall give more importance? NTSE Stage -2 or INJSO ? because both of these need different approaches as For INJSO , i need to full fledged in 11th and 12th syllabus whereas for NTSE i need to spend more time in S.St and MAT. Sir , Please give your expert opinion in this as i am bit confused. I will be very thankful .

    ReplyDelete
  18. @ anonymous, you should focus on ntse because getting selected in ntse will give you monthly scholarship and my suggestion is to study for ntse

    ReplyDelete
  19. Dear Tapan,
hold on boy, I never said you have no chance left, but said wait for final answer keys & check Cut off for Delhi, the cut off which solely was my wild guess based on what feed back I got on my personal level. I never gave any idea about Delhi as I said I may get some feed back from Delhi and then only I could have given you. For Delhi I said the cutoff was little lower. The numbers you mentioned here were for Rajasthan as a whole. Hope I have made clear to you. wait for monday when iapt releases key and then freezes the same and then check what you are getting. Ok.
Kota Boy- dear INJSO and NTSE are two different exams and hence have different impact on profile resultants. InJso would only give you value on finally making it to final that means you have to make the same to final 12 students, at least among 45 students of OCSC this year ( As this time it will be in INDIA). whereas NTSE will finally select 1000+ students adding to earlier 1000+ scholars fratinity. As far as I have come to know, the amount of scholarship is going to increase from 500 to 4000 this year only. thats very good that you expect good result out of stage 1 NTSE.
My advice would be you should (if you are getting through NSEJS) prepare well for INJSO which is going to be held on 2 Feb 2013, even much before you would get NTSE results. Then you may start preparing for class 10 Boards, and then finally from sometimes mid March 2013 concentrate on NTSE which will be held on 12 May. this way you would give your level best of you efforts with proper planning and with the support of your parents & teachers.
Would advice to look for sh Arun jain ji, whom I read earlier in this blog, or even Look for sh Nilesh ji who post here most of the time, may be he will be in a better position to explain as they seems to be master of the NTSE & IJSO matter.
My advice for you is cos you did well in NSEJS and I am sure you must have done good in NTSE stage 1 too, boy of this magnitude should give a serious try to both. ( Remember NTSE scholars are treated at par once you clear all the stages for scholarship). Also this is an advice to all who fall in this very range. You sure need " support in the form of preparatory guidance" hence take their help too. Seek you parents opinion too in this regard. Do not worry much about S ST & MAT as you will be getting enough time. As me if you still feel doubtful, I will try to explain.
Now To UP boy - dear, you are in class 9th but you are 1998 born, hence this will be your last chance to appear in NSEJS as their is age criteria apart from class limitations. but before you feel anything wait for a day or two for iapt key, check your marks and then think again, I feel they may increase with the iapt key.
Finally, dear all, I am not any expert or nor any academic adviser of expert level, so seek expert opinion where ever it is necessary. I am here just trying to help you kids who are as young as 14-15 yrs, this is the time when you all are very anxious and need to be given lot of care in terms of attending to your quarries honestly. I do not have professional or any other interest, hence think I am honest while giving my advice to you. Also I feel blessed talking / helping students of this greater level.
So finally boys & girls you have a greater responsibility than just thinking upon monetarily to give the best you have. Only you can do it.
Just ask your parents and teachers / mentors, how proud they feel about you and you will get to know that you have larger responsibility of putting best efforts than just try getting more out of all these exams.
Cheer up boys, temperature has gone down, eat good and know this, this is the best time of your life to give back the best.
All the best to you all.
    Dr Rajkumar

  20. @ rajkumar sir,
in other countries like taiwan, korea, singapore they are allowing student of age 15 to participate in IJSO.. so why INDIA doesnt allow student of age 15 to participate in ijso?
and as you said the cutoff for madhya pradesh will be more than 122.. but here i asked many students about their marks and they all are getting less than 60 marks.. so what do you think will be the cutoff for madhya pradesh?

  30. Sappu Dear
Last year the cutoff was around 120, this time this will go little down, but wait now for a few days.Number of students will little increase.
Naman, 118 is good one I hope this will do,though marginal, prepare, studying will help even otherwise.
Inertia must be answer, refer NCERT Class IX.
although centrifugal force also work, but here inertia is correct answer.
MP students did well thats why it will increase, but remember i am not the authority, just sharing my view like you.
I will sure fight for you young kids, authorities too are sensitive, do not worry, but know that they have to maintain some decorum and have to give some preference, You all are equal for them.
Look for few Biology questions, even they are wrong in my view, hope you will catch them too.
would request Sh Arunji & Sh Nilesh ji, Please come to help these kids, where are you,
kids are anxious and frightened for their value.
Wish you all for a great results.

  32. Q. 17 and 66,
This was what I found wrong. And centrifugal force is a function of inertia. That's why I think it is correct even though I have marked inertia as answer.
I guess I should get 112 as final marks. Do you think that will get me to qualify?

    ReplyDelete
  33. bio question first one of food chain suppose to be having 2 answers. inertia also
and chemistry one question answer given as 224 ml is bonus. my marks according to this would be 126
around 6-7 in 10class from rajasthan getin' about 130.
    another getin 163 and 2 in 140's
    so suppose rajasthan cutoff high
    130's may be
